What is P272?
In October 2014 Ofgem approved a mandatory regulation called P272, this process is set out in the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC). It instructs that all advanced Non Half Hourly Profile Class 05 – 08 electricity meters must be migrated to the Half Hourly market. P272 states that affected businesses must use automated meters – and these meters must send regular half hourly usage data to energy suppliers.
Who is affected?
If you have an electricity meter which is classed as 05 – 08 we need to pro-actively change alongside the industry reform that is being implemented. If you are unsure please check your most recent invoice and look for this:
If your MPAN Profile Type shows: 05, 06, 07 or 08
Then this will apply to you.
When is it happening?
From 5 November 2015, those businesses in profile classes 05 – 08 who already have accredited, automated half-hourly meters installed on site will be priced and settled half hourly.
For those who don’t, suppliers have until April 2017 to ensure affected sites have a half hourly meter and associated meter operation and data collection contracts.
How to prepare?
All meters in this class need a Half Hourly MOP and Half Hourly DCDA Contract in place beforehand.
Data Collection Service (DCDA contract)
Meter Operator Contract (MOP)
If you don’t do this by the deadline, your supplier will put you onto their default MOP and DCDA, you may end up with an agreement that is set up ‘automatically’ that will not match your specific requirements.
